Great British Spring Clean 2019: 22.03.19-23.04.19

Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean 2019 will take place between 22.03.19 and 23.04.19 and Leeds City Council will be supporting volunteer and community groups who wish to take part in it.

A few things have been changed this year, including:

  • The event is later and spread over a number of weeks
  • Groups are being asked to sort the waste so that some items can be recycled. The Keep Britain Tidy model is to have general waste, plastics and aluminium cans in 3 separate bags. In Leeds because of the way that recycling is collected and processed, the cans and plastics should go in together so there will only be 2 bags needed. If any groups don’t feel that they can sort the waste, we are still happy to collect bags of general waste.
  • Leeds City Council is able to provide support by means of provision and removal of the appropriate bags, as well as the loan of litter picking tongs, gloves and hi-vis vests. The amount of these are limited so groups should request the loan of them in plenty of time and to return them promptly after use. Anyone groups wishing to borrow such equipment should contact environmental.action@leeds.gov.uk or if they already have established links with the Cleaner Neighbourhoods Team, their local Team Leader.
