Archbishop Sentamu’s Visit to Aberford

A little while ago (19 April was it? – time flies!) Archbishop Sentamu visited the village as a part of his Easter Pilgrimage. Here’s a couple of pictures to commemorate the event.

Thanks are due to Mike Oakes who kindly took the photos.

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT IN PARLINGTON ESTATE

Residents may already have seen reports of proposals put before LCC by the owners of the Parlington Estate, to develop a large area of land off Junction 47 primarily (but not exclusively) for housing from 2020 onwards.

The Parish Council received a letter from the Conservative Group Office a couple of days ago which briefly sets out the background and thinking behind these proposals. A copy of this letter is available for all to read, in our Neighbourhood Plan folder, here.

As mentioned, there will be fuller consultations towards the end of the year, assuming (as we do) that these proposals are taken forward. We shall, of course, keep you advised of developments.

Parish Council Meeting 19 July 2016: Points of Interest

POLICE REPORT

Since our last meeting there have been two reported burglaries in the parish, both preventable. Summer weather brings open windows and doors, which provides ideal opportunities for criminals to enter properties. There have also been an increasing number of burglaries in surrounding villages, properties with the older, non-secure euro locks being a particular target. Please ensure your house is secure at all times, including stuff in your garden shed.

PARISH COUNCILLOR RESIGNATION

Since our last meeting, Councillor Jacqueline Jeffrey has resigned from the Parish Council. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Councillor Jeffrey for the work she has done for the parish whilst a Councillor.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

Work continues on this. Whilst there are various protections for existing buildings/areas (including, for example, Listed Building status, Greenbelt, and the Conservation Area) we are looking to strengthen these where possible. If there are structures or areas you feel are important to the parish that are worthy of protection but may not currently be included then please let us know.

JUBILEE FIELD

The stock of table tennis bats and balls always seems to disappear. With the school holidays almost upon us we will be restocking – please respect the equipment and leave it behind for others to use when you’re done.

BANKS COMMUNITY FUND

Following the construction of the Wind Farm at Hook Moor the Community Fund is now up and running. £10,000 per year is available for local groups over the next 25 years. If you feel your organisation might benefit please visit their website here.

LEEDSFEST TICKETS

These will be delivered to the Parish Council in the week immediately before the event. If your application was successful therefore please be patient….

PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY

There is now the facility on the LCC website to report problems on Rights of Way directly to them via e-mail. Please follow the link here.

Next Parish Council Meeting: Tues 19 July 2016

The next Parish Council meeting will take place on Tuesday 19 July in the Oriel Room, St Ricarius Church, Aberford, commencing 7:30 p.m. A copy of the agenda, and associated appendices, can be found here.

Works on Public Rights of Way

Members of the PROW Group (Andy Hogg, Dan Overend, Paul Hancock) have been maintaining the Village footpath signs so residents and visitors alike have clear sight of all public rights of way in and around our village. If you come across any signs that need fixing or replacing, please contact a member of the PROW group.
The designated PROW around the village are due to be cut again by our contractor week commencing 1st August 2016.

New Parish Council Clerk

This week, we welcome a new Clerk to the Parish Council. Natalie Goonesinghe, who lives in Scholes, has taken over the reins from Julie Sou who has gone on to pastures new at Horsforth Town Council.

We wish Julie, who has worked with us for just over 3 years, every success in her new role, and thank her for the work she has done for us over this time.

Next Parish Council meeting – Tuesday 21 June at 7pm

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Tuesday 21 June at 7pm – for our regular attendees, please note the earlier start time.

It will take place at the Oriel Room, St Ricarius Parish Church.

The papers for the meeting and the draft minutes for the May meeting can be found by clicking here.

The draft minutes of the annual meeting can also be found by clicking here.

The Parish Council has three vacancies for parish councillors.

Annual Return 2015-16

The Parish Council’s annual return was approved at the Council meeting on 17 May 2016.

The return has now to be checked by the external auditor, but members of the public have the right to inspect the papers – see the notice here giving more information on public rights of inspection. The unaudited annual return can be found by clicking here.

Village Hall – update

The viability renovations are now approaching completion, with the walls repointed, and the roof and guttering improved. Other improvements include painting the inside of the hall, replacing the boiler, and having a great looking new floor fitted. A front door, a kitchen door and a kitchen window are on order, and should be fitted over the next few weeks.  We are also awaiting the results of our recent electric tests.

We are grateful to the Parish Council and the National Lottery for grants that have enabled these key improvements to be made to keep the hall sound for the next couple of years.

Future Updates

The hall now has its own Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AberfordVillageHall/) – you do not need to sign up to Facebook to read updates on the page. Therefore future updates will be communicated via the Facebook page rather than the Parish Council Website.
